Abstract

A review and morphological study are presented of the eriophyids in the genus Cecidophyopsis occurring on gooseberries and currants of the genus Ribes. Three species are redescribed and illustrated: Cecidophyopsis ribis causing galling on Ribes nigrum; C. selachodon causing galling on R. rubrum; and C. grossulariae, a foliar and bud mite on R. grossularia, R. nigrum and R. rubrum. Two new species are described by the 1st author: C. aurea sp. nov. causing bud galls on R. aureum in Poland; and C. alpina sp. nov. causing bud galls on R. alpinum in Finland. Biological notes, character tables and a key are presented for separating the 5 species.
