Abstract

Crossing experiments demonstrated that spinelessness in the octoploid blackberry cultivar Austin Thornless and its derivatives was controlled by a single dominant gene, designated sf, and was not associated with low fertility. Fully fertile tetraploid and hexaploid derivatives were obtained.
