Abstract

The use of dinoseb-in-oil to kill vigorous young vegetative canes resulting in the production of a second later flush is outlined. This method has increased yields with annual cropping by up to 40% over a 5-year period compared with conventionally managed plantations; its use in a biennial cropping system, involving separation of the vegetative and fruiting phases, is also discussed. Data are included on the average yields and numbers of fruiting canes/plant of cultivars Glen Clova, Malling Admiral and Malling Jewel grown under annual or biennial cropping systems over a 3-year period.
