Abstract

Shoot tips and axillary buds of 14 cultivars of Ribes nigrum of diverse geographical origin were cultured for 21 days on modified MS medium supplemented with 2.2 mg benzyladenine/litre. Ben Lomond had the highest shoot multiplication rate, producing an average of 3.53 shoots per single initial explant. Mean multiplication rates ranging from 1.50 (Seabrooks Black) to 3.33 (Jet) were obtained for the other cultivars.
